  1. Driveway -- Long asphalt surface adjacent to structure used for parking vehicles. Requires extensive amount of regular work to avoid cracking and to maintain a nice black sheen.

  2. Hi NV,

Towards the end of your definition it starts to sound a little bit as if you are describing a specific driveway. :-)

One of the most interesting things to me about doing this blog is how I am called upon to categorize the world I see around me. I snapped a photo from the van and captured what I first wanted to call a lane. After some research I realized this was not a lane at all but just a driveway. I did not research driveway, rather I used my inner encyclopedia to verify the identification. Your comment made me realize that sometimes the most commonplace things can be the hardest to accurately classify. In truth, both of our examples would be considered driveways and so, not to limit my own understanding of the term, I should have been more descriptive in the post’s title.

Knowing how much identification is too much is yet another concern. Even still it would have been closer to the mark to call this post “Gravel Driveway.”

Anyhow, it is always nice to see you here or at your own blog.

Merry Christmas to you and yours! -b
