Vinyl Lattice Panel

.

AKA:  Diagonal Lattice Panel, Polyvinyl chloride, PVC

Location: Lewes, Delaware

Additional Information:  Vinyl Lattice panels will not come apart like their wooden counterparts. They also do not need painting on a regular basis and will not rot. The material they are made from, however, has a schizophrenic reputation. There are those who call PVC the poison plastic and others who tout it as eco-friendly. One source will tell you that "PVC is inherently recyclable" while another states that "PVC is considered a difficult and expensive material to recycle."Who to believe can be difficult to ascertain but it is my understanding that the second statement is as true as the first and that "recyclable" does not mean "gets recycled".

Strap Hinge with Lag Pintel

.

AKA:  Strap Hinge with Lag Pintle, Pintle and gudgeon strap hinge

Location: Lewes, Delaware

Additional Information: A Pintel (Alternately spelled Pintle) is a pin which upon receiving a gudgeon creates a pivot point. The gudgeon, on a strap hinge, is very often created from the strap itself being heated and rolled back to form a cylinder with the aid of a sizing pin. Pintels can be attached to a plate and face mounted, attached to a spike and hammered in or attached to a lag screw.

Nantucket Dormer

.

AKA: ~

Location: Seaford, Delaware

Additional Information: A Nantucket Dormer is a hybrid comprised of two gable or doghouse dormers joined in the middle by a shed dormer. Our photo shows the most obvious example with the face of all three dormers being on the same plane. Often the shed dormer will be set back a bit to give the gables their full shape. Nantucket dormers combine the visual interest of gable dormers with the spatial value brought about by the shed.

In instances where the gable dormers are large and/or close together the shed dormer in between can become virtually invisible.
