Stretcher Bond

.

AKA: Running Bond

Location: Rehoboth, Delaware

Additional Information: Bricks laid end to end along their length are called stretchers. Stretcher bond is a wall created entirely in this fashion. Unlike other interlocking bonds, stretcher bond is not very stable without the aid of ties to an underlying structure. Stretcher bond is often used for curtain walls which provide protection from the elements but are not themselves structural.
