Adobe Lightroom

.

AKA: ~

Location: ~

Additional Information: Digital photography has infiltrated the building trade!  It is not an invasion but sometimes it can feel that way as along with film-less photography comes the ability to click away seeking quality from quantity. All those pictures need to be kept and catalogued and thankfully there is a variety of software out there to help us do that.

Irwin Marathon Cordless Circular Saw Blade

.

AKA: ~

Additional Information: This Irwin Marathon cordless circular saw blade features UC2 carbide teeth that are welded to the body of the blade rather than brazed. Irwin has branded this method of connection WeldTec and they assure a 30% better hold over brazing.

The UC2 carbide teeth are touted as 70% tougher than standard carbide teeth. UC2 carbide is sub micro grain, meaning the carbide grains used to form the teeth are very, very small. This allows for the grains to be packed together more densely in the finished tooth and for those teeth to have a smaller profile because of it. Also, the denser the carbide teeth, the better they are able to hold an edge.

Using sub micro grain carbide allows this blade to have an ultra thin kerf which in turn translates to more cuts per charge on a cordless saw.

Eagle Square

.

AKA: ~

Additional Information: Legend has it that just after the war of 1812, a Vermont blacksmith was paid for his efforts in old saw blades. He forge welded two together at right angles and the steel square was born. The story is apocryphal, there is evidence of steel squares 200 years before but Silas Hawes (also the name of the blacksmith in the story) in 1819 did patent a carpenters square. Hawes' patent was actually for tapering the square from the Heel (shown here) to each end thus rendering the square lighter, improving balance and saving metal. One year later Hawes and his associate Stephen Whipple went into business as the Eagle Square Company. For nearly a century the company dominated the market. Then, in 1916, Stanley Rule and Level bought a majority interest in the Eagle Square Company and welcomed the now famous tool into their product line.
